Welcome to the St. Paul Winter Carnival. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the St. Paul Winter Carnival mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The St. Paul Winter Carnival is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
St. Paul Winter Carnival Along with twin city Minneapolis, St Paul, Minnesota is probably the snowiest big city in the US. After 120 years of practice, St Paulers know how to make the best of the white stuff, and the town's Winter Carnival dates back to 1886, making it one of America's oldest civic festivities.
Snow and ice sculpture looms large, as teams compete to produce the most beautiful figures with 20 blocks of ice and 48 hours to carve them. Around 250,000 people walk through Rice Park to view the completed sculptures. The Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Championship also takes place during the carnival, in Como Park, and there is even an ice maze.
